The Value of Water Campaign

The Value of Water Campaign is a coalition of leading organizations and individuals from across the US water sector who are working to educate and inspire Americans about how our water is essential, invaluable, and in need of investment.

Since 2015, the Value of Water Campaign has been building public and political will for investment in America’s water infrastructure.

Our nation’s water infrastructure is at risk. 

• Two minutes:   How often a water main breaks in the United States
• One in three:   The number of water sector employees who will be eligible to retire by 2033
• $91 billion:  The projected 2024 gap between water infrastructure needs and spending in the US
• 1.7 trillion:  The gallons of drinking water lost each year to faulty, aging, or leaky pipes
  

  The Benefits of Water Investment

  Investing in water leads to economic prosperity, improved public health and sanitation, and a higher quality of life for all.

  Better public health

  The Covid-19 pandemic has shown that the public health benefits from safe drinking water and wastewater treatment are immeasurable.

  Increased well-being

  If we successfully close the water infrastructure investment gap, disposable income would rise by $2,000 per American household.

  Employment growth

  With sufficient investment, the 30 largest US drinking water and wastewater utilities would be able to support 289,000 jobs by 2033.

  Boost in GDP

  All industries are water industries. If we fully fund our water infrastructure needs, our country’s GDP would grow by $4.5 trillion.

  Imagine a Day Without Water…..this is our most precious resource!  Water is the most essential source of human life. It hydrates us, keeps us healthy, and cleans our bodies. Water sustains global food systems, economies, and environments. Without it, our families and communities cannot thrive. Its value is impossible to quantify, yet it is incumbent on us not only to recognize the true value of water in our lives but to raise our collective voices to advocate for water investment.
